The Japanese word Ikigai describes my connection to photography. The finding of joy in life through purpose. Every new project becomes the purpose, beginning a fresh search for meaning by interpreting mine and others ideas, and turning them into images.
It explains my link to sea, a love of being immersed in the elements and in that moment, finding a singular reason to be.
This has sustained me as a photographer through a 20+ year career and the need to find meaning has only grown stronger.
