Portraiture

Long Service: London

A personal photography project by Peter Jackson featuring London’s restaurants and cafes and their long-serving members of staff.

Long Service: London is an ongoing personal portraiture project celebrating London’s hospitality scene (including restaurants, cafes, pubs, clubs and hotels) and its longest-serving members of staff. Started in 2018, Peter Jackson set out to celebrate those who’ve shown a quiet (or not so quiet!) dedication to their place of work over the years and to champion their loyalty. This has become particularly poignant during the pandemic as the hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit.

Peter said, “I’m keen to include a diverse range and it’s been fun to work with some of London’s most prestigious restaurants as well as local family-run cafes. Highlights for me include Van and Van, best friends from Hanoi who fled the country in 1979 and still work together at Hanoi Cafe today, and Roy at Arments Pie & Mash (feature image above) with 45 years service behind him, watching the surroundings of Elephant & Castle and Walworth Road change around him over the years.”
